July 28th, 2010

Hey there everyone!

Thank you, I'm excited to be senior comp. I think it's gonna be fun and it'll be a great learning experience.
So transfered happed today. Well, we left yesterday around 4 and arrived in Copenhagen at like 7. That night we stayed with the zone leaders. It was Elder holladay who I was companions with, and Elder Clayton. We stayed the night, and then in the morning we woke up, got ready, went to the mission office and I met my new comp, Elder Williamson! So far, he seems like a way awesome kid! I think that we are gonna get along way good! He's way cool and we are way similar. He has way good taste in music and we like a ton of the same music groups. He plays a bit of guitar too. He was trained here in Ballerup so he know's his way around pretty well. We don't have a car here, so we have to take the busses and the bus system here is pretty confusing! Here in Ballerup, instead of an apartment, we have a whole house! There are usually 2 or 3 companionships that stay there, but it's only the 2 of us this time, which is kind of a ripoff. It would be fun living with more than just 1 other missionary. Well, I'm excited for this companionship, and I'm excited to be senior. I think it's gonna be really fun. And it is going to be nice to go to the temple in Copenhagen! It's been over half a year since I've been.
Yeah, luckily we were able to fix up Benjamins hair a little bit. It was so bad cuz he did it himself and he used some way old little clippers that were way bad and could hardly even cut hair. We fixed it a bit though and it looks much better. We met with him a couple days ago, it was my last appointment with him, and we made some good American burgers for him to celebrate his baptism. They were way good. He is so cool! He's so excited for his baptism! I got kinda ripped off, cuz I moved just 4 days before the baptism, and know I have to pay to travel back there on Sunday! I'm way excited though, and It's gonna be way good. I'll tell you how the baptism goes next week!
Hahaha I know, Magnus sent you that message when I was there with him! He is a cool kid, and we had a lot of fun together. Erik/Eric's last name is Jensen I think, or something like that, but I'm not exactly sure.
Hahaha, I'm glad that you liked the pics from last week! I thought they were pretty fun. It's kinda weird the things that missionaries do sometimes! I have a little bad news though. I don't have any pictures from this week. Sorry. But I'll try to get some good ones for next time.
The celebrations for the 24th sound fun like usual. We did absolutely nothing to celebrate that day. I actually forgot all about it until the day after. I bet it was good to spend some time with the family. That is always fun.
Well, I hope you all have an amazing week! I miss you all!

July 20, 2010

Hey there! How is it going?! This has been a really great, fun, exciting, jam-packed week! Here's how it went! Last P-day, after we were done emailing, we went shopping and I got some new European style Jeans! I really liked my white ones but they are a little too flashy sometimes so I wanted another pair that wasn't so wild. Get this, Jeans here usually are so expensive. Like, over 100 bucks always. But, the ones that I found were just like 20 bucks! Oh yeah! After shopping for a bit, we went to the huge white dudes again. It was cool! It was really good weather, so we got some good pictures. Then we went to an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet. It was good, but ya know something weird, I don't think I like buffets any more. Yeah, the last few times I've been, I just haven't enjoyed it so much, cuz I feel so crappy when I eat so much, but I want to eat a lot to get my money's worth.
Well that was it for our P-Day. Also this week we have met with Benjamin a few times, and we have finished teaching him everything! We are done with all the commandments, and he is willing to live by them all! We made his baptismal program, and now all we have to do is review a couple lessons, he needs to get interviewed, and then it's the baptism! There is one problem though.... Last time we went to Ben's house, there was something different about him... He cut his hair, and it is the worst, ugliest hair that I have ever seen! That sounds mean, but it really is terrible. It is so uneven, and the sides are cut really really short, almost shaved, but there are random spots of long hair sticking out everywhere. It's just awful. We can only hope that it grows in better by his baptism.
Alright, yesterday was a super exciting day, and this is also why I didn't email you yesterday. It is because we had district meeting/interviews in Frederacia. It was the first interview that I've had with the new Mission Pres. And of course it was held completely in Danish. In our interview he told me some exciting news! Some HUGE news! It's about transfers next week! And some big changes are gonna happen! So, are you ready to hear the news?! Well, first of all, I'm leaving Esbjerg! :-O It seems like I just got here, but It's already been 2 months. Not only am I leaving Esbjerg, but I'm leaving Jylland and heading over to the big city! Yup, Copenhagen! Where I'm going is called Ballerup. It's a city about 10 miles outside of central Copenhagen! So things are gonna be a lot different than from out here in the country land. Guess what! That's not even all of the big news! There is more! He also told me who my new companion is gonna be, AND get this, I'm gonna be senior companion! Weird.. My new comp will be Elder Williamson. He has only been here for 2 months and is just finishing up getting trained. I really hope that I'm ready for this responsibility.
Well that is the big news. Things are gonna be way different.
Umm, the only other exciting thing that I can think about that we did is last night we went to Magnus and Erik's place. Magnus is an 18 year old recent convert and he is way awesome, and Erik is a member and they live together. They are both way cool and we get along way well. We went over there and played football with them for awhile and then played some Super Smash Bros with them. It was way fun.
K, well nothing else happened that I can think of.

Thanks for the fun pictures. I'll send you a bunch today! I hope you like them, they are pretty weird this week! Numbers 1, 2, and 3 are me with the huge white dudes. 3 is a nice modeling pose for you so you can see my new jeans. The next few are all, well, you can just see for yourself. :) then the last 3 are from our night last night with Erik and Magnus. Erik is in the white shirt, Magnus is in black.

That is neat that you were able to go to the temple with Scotty. I'm sure that was a great experience! His big day is coming up pretty quick. Before too long he'll be over here in Europe with me!
Whoah, that is so weird that Stacey Hatch is getting married! What the heck?!
Umm, well I have to get going. I'm glad that you like my letters. Honestly, I thought that I had been kinda slacking lately with them, but I'm glad you like them, and I'll keep em comin as long as you do.
Have a great week! I miss you!

July 13, 2010

Hey family!!!

I'll just get right into it with what happened with me this week. It was a kinda shortened week cuz I wrote you 5 days ago.
Anyway, I'll tell you a bit about Benjamin! He is still doing great!!! Get this, he threw out the last of his cigarettes 3 days ago! He is done for good! We've been meeting with him like 4 times a week, and he just loves meeting with us! We taught him this week about the Prophet and Apostles and gave him the new Ensign. He was excited to read the words of God's living servants. And then yesterday we taught him about the Law of Tithing. We were a little worried that he would have a hard time with it because he's not the richest guy. But we started with that scripture in the Bible that talks about tithing and says that God will open up the windows of heaven and pour out blessings so much that there is not room enough to recieve it, or whatever it says. And as soon as he was done reading it he said something like, ''ok so I should start paying tithing? No problem, how do I do it?'' He's so solid! We also worked on his baptismal program. He chose Elder Holladay to baptize him, and me and Camp to be witnesses. He also wants me to do a musical number.
Other than that there isn't much news investigator wise.
Yesterday was a pretty cool day. We had a service project that we did. There was a family moving to a new apartment and we helped them out. Then after the service we went to Ribe, which is a city about 30 minutes away, and it is the oldest city in all of Scandinavia. Anyway, we went there because there was a free concert by the BYU Jazz band! How cool is that? We were hoping that there would be some people that we knew but there wasn't. It was still fun to talk with them though afterwards. There was actually one of them in the band who was a missionary in Denmark 3 years ago! It was fun talking with him. He also teaches Danish at BYU and he was Elder Christensen's Teacher there before his mission. So we had some connections and we had a lot to talk about (in danish).
That is really all that I did this week. It wasn't too exciting. Oh yeah, I bought a new Dyne cover! Thats exciting! You probably don't know what a dyne is. It's basically just a blanket, but it has feathers in it. Thats what they use here I found a way cool cover so I bought it. I'll send you a pic.
Thank you for the pictures that you sent me! That is really weird to see you with all those people that I know! All those people who I'm used to seeing in Denmark! That's too bad that you missed out on most of the talks, but I'm sure it was good to meet with all those missionaries and get to know some of them. Hopefully they all had good things to say about me.
Yeah, President Andersen is a way good guy. I think that he is gonna be great for the mission. They have I think 5 kids, 4 of them were to the last zone conference. Pres. Olausen had 2 kids that were with them in Denmark, but I hardly saw them. I think I might've just seen them the first night I was here.
Yeah it was fun hanging out with Elder Christensen again. We have a lot of fun adventures together.
The allergies have been pretty bad, but I don't think you need to worry about sending any meds. I'm doing alright.
Yeah, I've been getting a bit of running in. But I still absolutely hate it. I don't understand how you and dad enjoy it. It's not fun at all. I just do it because people feed missionaries way too much food.
It has been around 85 degrees here lately, but the humidity is whats a killer. We get pretty sweaty sometimes. Yeah, we do have a car here and that makes it a lot better, but we still do a lot of walking out in the heat.
That is crazy to think that Tani is going to start Jr High! She isn't old enough for that! It's gonna be so weird to see how much everyone has changed. Like with Tia and Dad both getting new glasses!
Well I have to get going. I hope you have a great week!
Oh so real quick, the first pic is my new dyne, then there is the byu band, then me in ribe.
Well, have a wonderful week!

July 9, 2010

I'm sorry that you are getting this email 2 days late! I feel bad when I write you late without letting you know. I didn't write you on wednesday because we had zone conference, and I didn't write you yesterday because we had a combined district activity. They were both way good. We drove over to Odense on tuesday night, and stayed there with the missionaries, and then on Thursday we went to zone conference. I got to meet the new Mission President and his family! President Andersen! He seems like a way good guy, and I think he'll make a great mission pres. And get this, he's Danish! So, the whole meeting was in Danish, and he said that mostly everything will be in Danish from now on. I think that it is gonna be way helpful, but I just have to say, I'm glad that I got a bit of a headstart before everything swithed to Danish. There is a sister missionary who was asked to do a musical number, and so she asked me if I would play the guitar for her. So of course I said ya. It was a song that I had never heard before, and I didn't even learn the song until the night before we performed it! But it ended up going really well, and it was fun performing! After Conference, we worked a little bit in Odense, and then stayed the night again. And then the next day was really fun! We had a combined district activity with Elder Christensen's District! We woke up and went to the church where we made some pancakes with buttermilk syrup, strawberries, and whipped cream, and then while we ate them we watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. It was the first time that I had seen it, and I thought that it was way funny! After the movie we played some ping pong, foozeball, and pool for awhile and then went to a park. At the park we did something way cool. We rented some pedal boats and rode them around a pond! It was cool. The other missionaries were lame and got the boring red boats, but me and Elder Christensen decided to pay a little extra and get the swan boats! I'm glad we did, cuz it was way cooler than a boring red boat. Well, after we had enough with the boats, we set up a badminton net and played that for awhile, and through around a football. And then we returned home. It was a really fun day, but it completely wore me out, and I was so tired that evening!
Oh, I also have to tell you about last p day. We went to that aquarium, and it was pretty cool. We got to see all sorts of weird crazy fish, and we even touched some. I touched some little sharks, a sting ray, and a fat halibut. I was messin with an ugly fish, just like blocking him so he can't swim past, and shoving him around a little bit, and then the fish poked his head out of the water and spit on me! I didn't even know that fish could spit!
Well, that is all the fun that I've had in the past week. It was a pretty good week. The weather has been so warm in the past few weeks. It is so so so hot! But the worst part is that it is so humid here too! When we are walking around contacting, we get all sweaty and gross. There is also another problem with the hot weather too. I'm getting allergies way bad! I hate allergies, but I think that I get them here even worse than I did back home! My nose is always runny, and my eyes always itch really bad, and I sneeze at least a million times a day. :/
Here is an exciting story. So this morning I was out running. My companion doesn't like running, so every morning, I just run up and down the street in front of our apartment. Anyway, this morning, I had run a couple laps, and then these two guys walked past me. I didn't think anything of it, but then on my next lap when I turned around, these two guys were on the ground beating the crap out of each other! They just randomly and suddenly started fighting. So I was just like whoah, and stood back for awhile to see what happens, and they just kept fighting. Then a few people gathered around, and suddenly, the two stood up again, and walked away like good friends... What the heck? Anyway, about a minute after they left a police man drove up and started asking people questions, so I just went back inside. Weird.
Hmm, what else is there for me to tell you about? Uh, when I first came to Denmark, I started reading the Book of Mormon in Danish, and this morning I made it to Alma. So that's pretty exciting I guess. Its cool, cuz when I first started, I would have my Danish BOM and my English one, and I would read a verse in Danish and then English, but now I understand almost all of it, so I just read in Danish. I read out loud too, so it is really good pronounciation practice.
I guess the only other thing to tell about is the update with Benjamin. He is still doing great!!! Thank you for praying for him! He is doing pretty good with the word of wisdom, he still smokes a little but he is cutting down every day, and I really think he'll be able to do it. Yesterday he called us up, and he asked us if we could come over, so we went over there, and he asked us to give him a blessing to help him! So we gave him his first blessing, and he was happy about that.
Well, like I said, my new comp is 6'6''! He is dang tall! I feel like such a shorty next to him! He's from St George, and something interesting about his is that he sounds exactly like Brandon Stilson! His accent and his voice sound just like him! It's kinda weird sometimes. I don't really now what else to say about him. He is a good hardworking missionary, and our companionship is going well.
Oh yeah, at zone conference I got your package! Thanks! Yeah it was the chocolate that made the mess. They were melted everywhere and it got all over everything. So maybe thats not the best thing to put in a package. Thanks for the supplies though!
That is cool that you are gonna go to President Olauson's homecoming! You might see a few missionaries there also that new me. Like elder Dalton. I think he is gonna be there.
It sounds, and looks like you had a fun time with the fam at the 4th of July celebrations. I'm sure it was much more exciting than my day! All we did to celebrate was make some good burgers. Thanks for the pictures! It was really weird seeing Camron with a Goatee! What the heck?!
Ok so, I have a lot of pictures for you this time, so I'll explain them real quick. The first 5 are from the aquarium. Sorry, a couple of them are blurry, but they are me touching some ugly fishes. Then there is me and Elder Christensen in our swan peddal boat! And after that it's the other missionaries in there lame red boats. Next is a picture of me and Christensen in our matching ties. It's a bit old, but I thought you'd like the pic. Then there is finally a picture of Celina. It's about time that I sendt you a picture of her! And last but not least is a picture of us an Benjamin!
Well, I gotta go. I miss you a ton!! Love Elder Tyler Lee

June 30, 2010

Hey family!

I'm doing great!!! How are you? Yup, I got an email from Scotty! Romania! That's awesome! I told him that now we will both now languages that hardly anyone knows and that we will have no use for after our missions! I'm glad that he is coming over here to Europe with me. It's no Denmark, but still. I'm way excited for him, and I know that he is gonna be a great missionary. I can imagine how he is feeling right now, and the feelings that he will have as september 8th gets closer.
I can't believe that Edward got his call too! He's too young, what the heck?! I was thinking the other day, it has been over a year since I got my call! Weird!

Well first of all, I have some HUGE news to tell you!! Are you ready?! Here it is. Benjamin isn't moving back to the Faroe Islands!!! But wait there's more! He is getting baptized!!! :-O Whoooaaaaah! Can you believe that?! It's so exciting! He is getting baptized on August 1st! :D It was hard to set a baptismal date with him, but one day we were just like, ''Benjamin, do you believe that Joseph Smith was a Prophet?'' And he was like, ''Yes'' So we say, ''Do you believe that the Book of Mormon is true?'' ''Yes'' So we were like, ''Benjamin, you know the church is true, get baptized.'' So he was like, ''Yes, I want to'' :D So anyway, we set a date for the first of August, and ever since, he has just been so positive!! He wants to make sure that he is ready for his baptism. He is still having a hard time with smoking, but he has committed to be done with it within one week. He absolutely loves the church, and he came with to the baptism on saturday, and he loved it! He said he could feel the spirit so strong when the girl recieved the Holy Ghost. Oh, also he has told his parents, and they are fine with it! They say if it makes him happy than that is great! And his dad is gonna come all the way from the Faroe Islands to be at his baptism! Ah man, he is so excited! And so am I if you can't tell! This is my first real baptismal commitment that I've had yet! So maybe if you think about it, could you remember Benjamin in your prayers every once in awhile? That he will be able to stop smoking, and be ready for his baptism on August 1st. Tak skal du ha'! :)
Ok, so I mentioned that baptism. It was another great experience. I love baptisms! The little girl getting baptized was so cute, and she was so excited. It reminded me of Tia, when I baptized her.
Ok, well other than that big news with Benjamin, there isn't much to report about our investigators. Other than that Brian Hellman, the zombie, got a haircut. So he looks a little less like a zombie now.
We met with this lady, Camilla, she is from Lithuania, and she made us some Lithuanian food when we were there. It was the most disgusting thing that I've eaten in Denmark! (and maybe in my life) I don't even know what it was, and I don't know if I want to. It was rice with some nasty disgusting sauce that had some kind of gross plant in it, it wasn't like a vegitable plant, more like some weed plant. And then it had these nasty slimy creatures that had big vains in them that mad it impossible to cut them, and hard to chew. I don't know what they are, but it was so gross. And of course she dished up a huge portion of it.

Well, I have my new companion now! Elder Camp! This is our third day as comps so far, and its going really well. He is from St George, and he is dang tall! He said he's 6'6''! We get along well so far. It's a little bit tough teaching sometimes, because this is his first time as senior companion, and he has only been here two months more than me. Also, I know the area, and he doesn't so I've had to take charge. It seems basically like I am the senior companion. I think that our companionship is gonna be way good for both of us though. I think that I'm gonna progress a ton with Danish and everything, cuz I'll be forced to use it more. So I'm excited, and a little scared, I hope I'm ready.
Hmm, what else is going on with me... Oh, the World Cup has been going on for the past couple of weeks, and it is so big here! When Denmark played, the whole country basically shut down during the game. Denmark unfortunately didn't do too good though, they got out in the first round. It was actually the first time in history that Denmark didn't make it to the second round. Everyone was pretty sad after that.
Umm, we finally got the general conference Ensign. It has been good reading through the talks again, especially the one that I watched in Danish, and didn't get a ton out of. Well, I think that's all that there is for me to tell you about for this week.
Oh get this! Elder Dalton, my trainor, is going home in 2 days! :o

Alright. I didn't get your package yet, but it is in Denmark. It came the day after zone conference, so I don't get it until the next one, which is on the 7th. But I called the office and they said they have it, but they also told me that something broke or exploded in there and it's kinda a mess. Is there something you put in there that couldv'e exploded?
Yeah, I'm used to military time by now, its not that hard, but I'm not used to the metric system. I always have to convert everything to American style.
It was good hearing a bit from dad this time too! I liked hearing about when he was in a similar situation as me on his mission.
Well, I hope you have a great time during the 4th of July! My 4th of July is probably gonna be pretty boring and uneventful. I'm gonna get going though right now. Have a great week, and I'll talk to you later. I'm glad you like the pictures, I'll keep em comin. Here are a couple more.
The first is a picture of the world cup. This was the game that they played against japan, and lost.
Then there is a pic of Natasha Kjær and her dad. She was a cutie, and her dad reminds me a ton of Glen from 'The Ringer'
last is a view of my new home, Esberg.
See ya later!

Love Elder Tyler Lee
